IMF Dvořák´s Olomouc

International Music Festival Dvořák´s Olomouc was founded through transformation of the Olomouc Music Spring Festival organised by the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra already since 1958. The new title Dvořák´s Olomouc was applied in 2001.

Relationship of Antonín Dvořák to the music history of Olomouc is truly significant. Between 1888 and 1898 the composer frequently undertook artistic activities in v Olomouc, he cooperated with music and choral society Žerotín; he even became its honorary member. His cordial affiliation to music enthusiasts in Olomouc is demonstrated not only the maestro´s appreciation of artistic qualities of Žerotín, expressed not only by dedication of the St. Ludmila oratorio directly to the Žerotín music society but also with the première of Dvořák´s most significant vocally instrumental masterpieces – Te Deum and Requiem that were staged in Olomouc for the first time ever on the European continent. Upon its foundation, Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc resumed the tradition of Žerotín.

Festival dramaturgy is focused not only on the work of Antonín Dvořák but also on other significant Czech as well as international authors.
The festival intends to reach to broad scale of audience therefore the festival programme involves also non-traditional projects (such as performance of silent-screen comedy accompanied by orchestra) and, the jazz theme concerts in addition to the so-called “classical music”.

Concerts are held not only in the venues of Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc (Reduta, Mozart Hall) but also in Klášterní Hradisko, in the St. Moritz Church and the Metropol Cinema.

The festival is hosted by the Olomouc Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc.
The festival is organised every year, during the month of May

.

Throughout its existence the festival presented numerous renowned artists, for example Václav Hudeček, Mischa Maisky, José Cura, Ramón Vargas or Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica.
