International Organ Festival Olomouc

logo_varhanni_festival_v_olomouciInternational Organ Festival Olomouc was established in 1969 and it is held every year in September, in the St. Moritz Church.

The festival was founded by Professor Antonín Schindler (1925 – 2010), the organist of the St. Moritz Church. It was this church where he could play the unique organ that Michael Engler built in 1745; however, the organ was in significantly decrepit condition. Thanks to the Professor Schindler´s initiative the organ underwent major overhaul and was extended – and this restoration became the impetus for the organ festival of international standing.

Through its long-term existence the large five-manual console of the largest organ in our country was experienced by outstanding organists from around the world, inter alia Jean Guillou, Susan Landale, Piet Post, Ben van Oosten and Olivier Latry.
